The month of November seen us carrying out a few timber decay repairs around the Aberdeen area:- supporting joists affected by penetrating damp, floor repairs due to leaking white goods, and the usual wall defects from the typical ‘faulty roof coverings, pointing and rainwater goods’. This job at the west end of Aberdeen resulted in some minor floor repairs due to a damp issue caused by some missing pointing and problems around the chimney stack. The original timber lintel above one of the windows was also in need of repair, or should I say replacement. The decay was so bad that what was left of the lintel simply slipped out, making it easy for us to install a set of pre-stressed concrete options (safety measures were taken with a prop system prior to it’s removal). A precautionary fungicidal treatment of the surrounding masonry was carried out, then it was then a case of removing the rest of the timber lath, reframing, plasterboard sheeting, then applying the plaster finish ready for the client to redecorate.
